OPINIONS PLEASE

Now, I can do a mean wire tie if I do say so myself, but I didn't want a tight wrap on these. Not so mean when I'm working loosely. So I need some critiquing here. Do these look sloppy, or do they look intentional? All comments welcome. No feelings will be hurt!

  1. Well, my experience is that the messy look works best when you have a lot of extra wire (I usually don't have enough, but I am learning!). If you don't have multiple overlapping layers, then you can see the gaps and that is where it doesn't look as polished (if messy can lool polished?). I also think that it tends to look better messy when I have thinner wire, if that makes any sense.
    Enjoy the day! Erin

  2. I like a messy a look - have to because all my stuff comes out like this - but I would use a little more wire to enhance the messy look. regards Stefanie

  3. Thanks, that's kind of how I was feeling too. Unfortunatly my headpins are only 2". So I reworked them and made a larger loop and a shorter, tighter neck. I played with my thin wire, and I loved the wrap, but I wanted a flush bottom....

  4. ok - the gauge of wire you are using here is, i feel, complimentary to the curvilinear design on the beads.. i wouldn't go to a finer wire because i think it wouldn't 'go' as well... the parts would seem to be very delineated, which is often ok... but because the wire plays so well with the design, i like how it flows... also with this gauge wire, i wouldn't overly wrap it... that would removie some of the delicacy... it is all an aesthetic choice of course, and it rests with you...

  7. You could always add more wire to what you already have. This is when I would use "twisty tendrils" which are doubled headed enameled head pins from a fine gauge wire. You need to learn to enamel so you can make some! They are great for filling in empty spaces in your jewelry designs, too. I love your design. Very delicate, and the bead looks like it is a milky transparent ... is that right? I love that effect.

  8. i agree with marie that your gauge wire is correct as is..
i really like the oversized bead caps too..
while i love that loose wire wrapping..
i just can't decide if i like these 2 things together...

  9. when i first started i was all about that tight uniform wrap. made me feel more professional. Now, 'messy' or a less uniform wrap is what sets your art apart. gives it a signature. it doesn't mean you don't care about the quality of your work. I think these are lovely and sweet. i wouldn't change a thing!

  10. i've been going back and forth between the photo in your etsy shop with the same great bead caps and this blog one.. i'm won over to the addition of this loose wrapping.

  11. Leave them as they are. I am never really happy about my "messy loops", but I love them when I see them in other people's designs. Wire gauge is fine I think, I would leave them as they are.

  12. Sincerely I love them this way, look more interesting. I wouldn't change the gauge.
So the answer is... they look intentional not sloppy. :)
